Strawberry and Chocolate Chip Scones

Hello there. I try not to eat too many things that are not in season. Particularly fruit and vegetables that taste so much better when they are picked straight from the garden. Strawberries are one of those berries that I usually wait for as you can't beat the flavour when they have been ripening in the summer sunshine. But this morning I saw them in a little greengrocers store and they looked so juicy and smelled heavenly. So I thought I'd buy a punnet and do some baking with them. The result is these utterly delicious scones made with chocolate chips. It's a super easy recipe and does get a little messy, but they are totally worth all the cleaning up afterwards.

Preheat oven to 220 degrees C.


200g plain flour

60g caster sugar

1 tbs baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

85g unsalted butter

80g strawberries, diced

80g milk chocolate chips

1 free range egg

200ml double cream

extra sugar for sprinkling on the top


^ Line a baking tray with greaseproof  paper.

^ Sift all dry ingredients into a food processor bowl. (Or into a large mixing bowl).

^ Add butter and pulse until coarse crumbs are formed. 

^ Empty dry mixture into large bowl. 


Add c

hocolate chips and diced strawberries.

Mix to combine. 

^ Whisk egg with double


eam and then add to dry mixture. Fold gently until all ingredients are just combined. 

Turn mixture out onto floured surface. Knead a few times. Pat dough into large circle about nine inches in diameter. Cut dough into eight wedges. (This is where it gets messy as the dough is quite sticky. You may need to add some extra flour to get it to hold it's shape).

^ Place on greaseproof paper. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes or until skewer comes out clean. 

Enjoy with some butter or jam (or even both!). x
