Winter days by the sea with Joules

Back in September we took a trip to Staithes, North Yorkshire. I fell in love with this quirky, unpretentious fishing village and I've been longing to return and climb those big old hills and breathe in some salty sea air all winter. Of course the weather has played a part in delaying my return, but last weekend brought sunny if slightly breezy days and we decided it was time to go back. I also thought it would be the perfect place to try out a couple of pieces from the new Joules collection.

Thrilled to be asked to select an outfit for Harry and one for myself, it took a long time to decide. I like the new range of women's clothing for springtime and in particular the denim dresses and the bright floral capri pants. But it's still pretty chilly out there and I wanted to go for something that would keep me cosy. So I chose the Merrin jumper with its classic Breton style stripes, boat neck and three quarter length sleeves (all top of my list when it comes to choosing clothes). To me a Breton top never dates and looks as good in the city as it does by the coast. I also selected a showerproof wax bucket hat in a caramel shade. I do love a hat. In the changing conditions, both kept me warm and dry. Now I'm back home I love teaming that jumper with a pair of jeans or my cords and a little vest top underneath.

Joules have lovely clothes for boys and Harry chose the Mariners jacket in blue, a showerproof cotton coat with a hood. It has a gorgeous Breton stripe lining inside and cool little toggles to fasten across the front. It's a beautiful colour and Harry loved wearing it. He was going to pick a pair of cargo trousers but instead I convinced him to try the jeans. He doesn't really like jeans, always complaining of how hard and uncomfortable they are on, but these he thought were great. They were a soft, relaxed denim with a straight leg, adjustable waist and he was able to climb on the rocks and do all the things that boys want to do without any discomfort. He likes them so much he wants me to buy him another pair!

We had a lovely day back at the beach. I returned home feeling invigorated and also wishing we could have stayed a lot longer. We'll be back there soon I hope. x

Thank you to Joules for providing us with these lovely clothes.
