Eames - The Architect and The Painter
I have just spent the most interesting and absorbing hour and a half watching this documentary on Charles and Ray Eames.
It's a fascinating account of their designs and work, but is so much more compelling as it's the story of their life and love for one another.
I knew little of their work away from furniture design and architecture, but they did so much more than that.
And I had a tear in my eye when I saw how their love affair started.
But I think the thing that I enjoyed the most was my understanding of Ray's influence on Charles' designs - she brought the colour and artist's touch to everything they did, although she seemed to remain quietly in the background even at the height of their success.
Do try and get to see it on DVD, it's the most inspiring thing I've seen all year.
(But be warned - you'll probably want to buy some chairs after watching it!). x
