Spiced apple and sultana crumble
A very Happy Monday to you. I hope you all had lovely weekends. The weather is horrendous here at the moment, so food for me needs to be warm and comforting. And you can't get any better than a fruit crumble. I made this yesterday and I have to say, hand on heart, this is the best crumble I have ever, ever eaten! So here is this week's recipe using the beautiful Bramley Apple.
Spiced Apple and Sultana Crumble (serves 6)
900g Bramley apples, peeled, cored and sliced
25g soft brown sugar
1 heaped teaspoon mixed spice
2 tbsp water
for the crumble topping:
110g plain flour
110g porridge oats
75g butter, at room temperature
80g soft brown sugar
Preheat the oven to 180C. Place the apple, sultanas, sugar and spices in a saucepan, sprinkle with the water and heat gently until the apples are soft. Spoon the mixture into your baking dish.
Make the topping - place the flour into a large mixing bowl then add the butter and rub it into the flour using your fingers until it resembles breadcrumbs. Then add the oats and the sugar and mix well.
Sprinkle the topping on top of the fruit and then bake for about 30 minutes.
Serve with custard and experience a little piece of heaven! x
